Pumpkin Walnut Bread Mix
Love it or hate it--this is the most resourceful bread you'll ever find!
Can I use this mix in my 1 pound capacity or 1.5 pound capacity bread machine?
We have designed our mixes specifically for 2 lb. capacity machines. However, you may still find success with 1.5 lb. capacity machines. You may expect to see the top of the loaf touch the lid of the machine towards the end of the baking cycle. This may lead to imperfect baking in that one spot on the loaf. The rest of the loaf should be fine. For 1 lb. bread machines, we recommend only running the bread on the dough cycle and then transfer the dough to a pan for baking in a conventional oven. See packaging for more info.
Why do the directions ask me to use a thermometer?
Yeast is very sensitive to heat and other environmental factors. We have tested and designed our mixes to find the sweet spot for yeast activity to get the best rise. Even just a few degrees off on water temperature can make a big impact on the quality of your bread. Measuring the temperature of your water accurately is the best way to ensure consistently successful bread baking.
I followed the directions exactly and I see had a problem with my bread? What can I do?
Sometimes bread issues happen. We are happy to help. Send us a picture of your bread and a picture of the back packaging of your bread mix to our customer support email at customerservice@preparedpantry.com. Include as much detail as possible about your baking process and bread machine model so we can troubleshoot the cause of the issue.
Should I adjust my mix for high altitudes?
We don't recommend making any changes to the mix for high altitudes. We have tested our mixes in a variety of locations and have fine tuned each mix to be the best product possible.
I don't have a bread machine or a stand-type mixer. Can I still make this bread in my oven?
- Yes! Our bread mixes are designed for bread machines or oven. You can make them in a variety of ways such as a free standing artisan loaf, rolls, hamburger buns and more. See our Bread Baking Guide for more info on baking bread in the oven.
You can do anything with this! You can make sandwiches, French toast, and bread pudding and it makes fine morning toast with your favorite jam.
A bacon and bean sandwich is impressive. Cowboys and lumberjacks love it.
This is not your ordinary pumpkin bread. It's unlike any pumpkin bread you've tried. This is not a sweet bread--like banana bread. It's a yeast bread. You'll love this pumpkin bread just the way it is.
But people really do love it or hate it. A lot more love it than hate it--about six to one. If you're looking for a sweet bread, you'll be disappointed. If you're looking for a flavorful, do-anything bread, try it.
Customer Questions
- Okay, what is this? It's an everyday bread mix, not a dessert bread, and it's not sweet.
- What does it taste like? Pumpkin. It's loaded with pumpkin, but a touch of molasses and brown sugar takes the edge off the earthy pumpkin. But don't mistake it for a pumpkin pie.
- Cowboys and lumberjacks? Do you have to be a guy to like this bread? Oh, no. Read the reviews. Anyone can love this bread, and it does have a lot of flavor.
- What about the walnuts? Yep, they're generous. It's nice to have some crunch in your sandwich or French toast. Nothing wrong with walnuts in a sandwich.
- What if I decide to make bread pudding? Well, now you are sweet. It's still not pumpkin pie, but it's a luscious, memorable dessert.

You can do everything with it. This pumpkin bread makes fabulous French toast. You can make dinner rolls. If you really want to delight your family, make cinnamon rolls. Or make a simple loaf and a cream cheese spread flavored with your family's favorite jam.
That's hero stuff.
"Amazing! So far, this is our favorite bread machine bread of all time! Generous amount of walnuts and perfectly spiced!" Stephanie Jenkins
"I love pumpkin anything. This bread had hints of molasses and brown sugar with my favorite fall spices: cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. It baked beautifully in my bread machine. Will definitely bake more of this bread. Loved the slice with whipped cream cheese." Sylvia Jacobus
"Awesome. A very delicious bread, our family consumed it on one day. Toasted or plain it’s the best sandwich bread ever. We love it!" Elaine Post
This pumpkin bread works fine in a bread machine, but we usually make it in the oven. If you let it rise until it almost has blisters, it will make an enormous loaf.
This is a do-anything bread. Give it a try.

Best bread ever took this to a party just like I bake it and everyone loved it made it at home toasted it didn’t need jam or jelly made great French toast
This is a big hit. It’s also great if you add golden raisins. Love it.
The pumpkin walnut bread smelled delicious while baking. Consequently, we were very disappointed to find that none of us liked it. The flavor seemed flat with an aftertaste. In addition, it was the only loaf among all the samples we have tried that broke apart when we took it out of the bread maker pan. On a more positive note, we've really enjoyed everything else!
This bread is delicious all by itself but is also great toasted.
