New England Soup and Sandwich Bread Mix
Make this with your bread machine, stand-type mixer, or by hand.
Can I use this mix in my 1 pound capacity or 1.5 pound capacity bread machine?
We have designed our mixes specifically for 2 lb. capacity machines. However, you may still find success with 1.5 lb. capacity machines. You may expect to see the top of the loaf touch the lid of the machine towards the end of the baking cycle. This may lead to imperfect baking in that one spot on the loaf. The rest of the loaf should be fine. For 1 lb. bread machines, we recommend only running the bread on the dough cycle and then transfer the dough to a pan for baking in a conventional oven. See packaging for more info.
Why do the directions ask me to use a thermometer?
Yeast is very sensitive to heat and other environmental factors. We have tested and designed our mixes to find the sweet spot for yeast activity to get the best rise. Even just a few degrees off on water temperature can make a big impact on the quality of your bread. Measuring the temperature of your water accurately is the best way to ensure consistently successful bread baking.
I followed the directions exactly and I see had a problem with my bread? What can I do?
Sometimes bread issues happen. We are happy to help. Send us a picture of your bread and a picture of the back packaging of your bread mix to our customer support email at customerservice@preparedpantry.com. Include as much detail as possible about your baking process and bread machine model so we can troubleshoot the cause of the issue.
Should I adjust my mix for high altitudes?
We don't recommend making any changes to the mix for high altitudes. We have tested our mixes in a variety of locations and have fine tuned each mix to be the best product possible.
I don't have a bread machine or a stand-type mixer. Can I still make this bread in my oven?
- Yes! Our bread mixes are designed for bread machines or oven. You can make them in a variety of ways such as a free standing artisan loaf, rolls, hamburger buns and more. See our Bread Baking Guide for more info on baking bread in the oven.
- Made with eight whole grains.
- The chopped grains turn into fine, soft nuggets during baking. Hearty with a wonderful chew
- Mild sourdough flavor, moist and fragrant
- "I recommend this to my friends.
- "Favorite bread"
- A great bread for toast, soup, and sandwiches.
This is a different bread. It's soft and moist, like homemade white bread. Even though it's made with eight grains, it's lighter and whiter than expected. It's an extraordinary bread.
But it's a puzzlement. It is not a bestseller. It should be--53 reviews in 18 months and everyone is a "5" star. Read the reviews. People love it, but the crowd hasn't discovered it yet.
This was intended to be a winter bread, hence the eight grains, but it works just fine in warmer weather. It's a straightforward bread. It reminds me of the bread Merri Ann made in Alaska when we lived there but her bread was more brown; she ground her own wheat.
But I'm going to send you to Kamie in the Kitchen's Happy Sandwiches--not because you need potato chips on your sandwiches, but because she's a creative, happy spirit. She'll inspire you.
This bread makes sandwiches better. And it's a great companion to soups. Look what this customer says:
"Not only is this great with most any soup, I haven't found a sandwich that isn't better with this bread!" Skip W.
We would like to help you with your soups. Get this primer for making cream soups. Then you can create your own soups--though you'll find the recipe for this chicken and wild rice soup. Try it. It's a very good soup, a nice match for an eight-grain bread.

"This is my favorite of all the mixes. When it’s still warm, we break out the butter, and suddenly, it’s half gone!"--Charlie O
"Love this bread with soup! I make a lot of soup and do love this bread with a bowl of soup. It makes a hearty - kind of chewy -loaf (I use a bread machine). Freeze’s well too."--Susan
"This bread is delicious. It has a nice texture and is great just sliced with butter or jam. My kids love it. Prepared Pantry makes the best bread mixes. Every one we've tried has been good. Highly recommend!"--Jane B
"I really loved this bread. It had a mild, slightly sweet, taste. Like the description says, it is "almost a white bread ". Yet the grains add just the slightest extra moisture and texture. The crust had an especially nice texture. I don't normally like bread crusts, often throwing away that part. But this one was delicious - crispy, but not tough or hard, and flavorful. "--Karen K

Excellent
Made this bread for the first time yesterday. It browned nicely on the medium crust setting on my bread machine. It had a mildly sweet nutty taste. It sliced up nicely and made great toast. I will definitely make this again.
Always delivers a beautiful, appetizing loaf! Really is the best tasting bread!
I am 100% with the other reviewers. This bread has become the family favorite. Taste, texture, whether plain or toasted, wins the race. A loaf rarely makes it to a 2nd day over here. Cut a hunk when there's still warmth to it after baking, slather it with butter, and you'll see. You'll find yourself slicing another piece, then another...
This has become one of our favorites. Greatbtxture and flavor.
