Old World Sourdough Bread Mix

Make this with your bread machine, stand-type mixer, or by hand.

SKU: M90-1

Can I use this mix in my 1 pound capacity or 1.5 pound capacity bread machine?

We have designed our mixes specifically for 2 lb. capacity machines. However, you may still find success with 1.5 lb. capacity machines. You may expect to see the top of the loaf touch the lid of the machine towards the end of the baking cycle. This may lead to imperfect baking in that one spot on the loaf. The rest of the loaf should be fine. For 1 lb. bread machines, we recommend only running the bread on the dough cycle and then transfer the dough to a pan for baking in a conventional oven. See packaging for more info.

Why do the directions ask me to use a thermometer?

Yeast is very sensitive to heat and other environmental factors. We have tested and designed our mixes to find the sweet spot for yeast activity to get the best rise. Even just a few degrees off on water temperature can make a big impact on the quality of your bread. Measuring the temperature of your water accurately is the best way to ensure consistently successful bread baking.

I followed the directions exactly and I see had a problem with my bread? What can I do?

Sometimes bread issues happen. We are happy to help. Send us a picture of your bread and a picture of the back packaging of your bread mix to our customer support email at customerservice@preparedpantry.com. Include as much detail as possible about your baking process and bread machine model so we can troubleshoot the cause of the issue.

Should I adjust my mix for high altitudes?

We don't recommend making any changes to the mix for high altitudes. We have tested our mixes in a variety of locations and have fine tuned each mix to be the best product possible.

I don't have a bread machine or a stand-type mixer. Can I still make this bread in my oven?

$6.79

This is our best sourdough bread made with wholesome grains: rolled oats, rye, barley, and wheat.

European sourdough is a little different flavor than San Francisco sourdough--a very nice flavor that's deep and complex.

If you like sourdough bread, this is a wonderful choice. It's a milder sourdough with a chewy crust, a wonderful split-top bread. The secret is the four wholesome rolled grains (wheat, oats, rye, and barley) plus a generous helping of sunflower seeds. Because the grains are rolled, not chopped, they blend into the bread for a smooth, soft texture. (Your kids or grandkids won't know that all those good grains are in there.) But you'll get a wonderful sourdough bread that is restaurant quality and very good for you.

This is a healthy choice with four whole grains and sunflower seeds. There are no preservatives.

  • A great bread for toast and sandwiches.
  • A soft, moist bread that your family will love.
  • Each package contains one bread mix that makes a two-pound loaf.
  • Use a thermometer to check water temperature and we guarantee your bread will work.

Don't miss this great bread.

Good Stuff with adjustments

I am very pleased to get the time and the opportunity to fuss putt around the kitchen to reach back to the time of homemade foods that are healthier and tastier. This company does a great job formulating recipes and suggestions for honing my baking skills. Among them are the idea to add an extra packet of yeast, a pinch of salt, a bit of honey to feed the yeast and a dough enhancer.
If you like lighter breads these above mentioned items will accomplish that while still yielding good texture and a significant crust.
Kudos to the Prepared Pantry, I am enjoying the challenges of baking, the aromas in my kitchen and my wonderful breads nestled into a nice cloth bread bag.
These mixes generally will work well in a bread maker and that is a good thing -- I have not tried to do the oven thing yet.
Old World Sourdough Bread mix has given me the texture, crust, and strength to accommodate my needs, good sandwich strength, a great breakfast addition and
a healthy change away from unhealthy additives. The carbs are often negated largely with fiber so diabetics can partake.

Shelf life is as good as one can expect but then it goes fast because it is so good.

Didn't rise

I have been using mixes for years successfully. This time didn't rise. Probably operator error.

It’s good but I prefer other sourdough packs

Try the Alaska Sourdough. It’s light with a very crispy crust.
